About Henry 02

Henry is a Member of the BABCP and of the Royal Society of Medicine. The BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) is the lead professional body for CBT in the UK.

Concerns about Henry’s practice may be raised with the BABCP. The link to the register and concerns process is in the site footer.

Henry has been practising as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist for over twenty-five years. His earliest clinical work was in NHS Scotland Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He trained across NHS Trusts, including the Maudsley, and at the Priory, before establishing independent practice in the City of London fifteen years ago. He is a member of the BABCP and holds Master’s degrees in CBT (Distinction) and REBT.

Booking 03

Booking is direct from this site, straight into Henry’s diary, with no third-party platform between you and the work. You can book a session via the booking page, or send a brief enquiry first if you would prefer to make contact before the first session.

Sessions are held online, over a secure video platform. The booking confirmation sets out the time and the joining details.

Yes. Please give at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule, so the slot can be offered to someone else. Late cancellations may incur a fee, as set out in the booking confirmation and the practice terms.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based talking therapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and follow a collaborative, formulation-led structure rather than a prescriptive script.

Henry’s primary modality is CBT, with an integrative range that draws on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) where the work calls for it. The CBT spine keeps the work evidence-based; the integrative range keeps it tailored to the individual.

Fees and insurance 03

Session fees are confirmed directly with the practice on enquiry. A concession rate is available; please ask when you get in touch to find out whether you are eligible. Full payment details and methods are set out on the fees page.

Yes. The practice is recognised by many major insurers, including CIGNA, AVIVA, ALLIANZ, HEALIX WPA, BUPA, and AXA. If you intend to use health insurance, please contact your insurer first to confirm that your policy covers private psychotherapy with this practice, and obtain an authorisation number before your first session.

The booking page has space for the authorisation number and policy reference. Self-funded sessions are also available.

For insurer-routed sessions, the practice invoices your insurer directly once the authorisation number, policy reference, and session dates are on file. You typically pay any policy excess or co-payment yourself; the rest is settled between the practice and the insurer.

Please have the authorisation number and policy details ready for the first session. If you are unsure whether your policy covers private psychotherapy with this practice, your insurer’s member services team is the right first call.

Online sessions 03

All sessions are held online, over a secure video platform. You will receive a secure video link with your booking confirmation, and the booking process is handled directly on this site.

The link opens in a standard browser, with nothing to install in advance. Henry works this way with clients across the UK and further afield.

You need a device with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a quiet, private space where you can speak openly for 50 minutes. A laptop or desktop is preferable to a phone, but a phone is workable if that is all you have.

The video link is sent with your booking confirmation. There is no software to install in advance; the link opens in a standard browser.

The clinical evidence base for CBT delivered online is well established for most adult presentations, and the format is treated as equivalent to in-person work for the conditions Henry sees most often. For many clients, online sessions also remove a real practical barrier and allow more consistent attendance.

If anything about the format is unclear, Henry will talk it through with you at the first session.

First session 05

The number of sessions varies according to the nature and complexity of the presenting difficulty. Henry will discuss an initial framework with you at the first session and review it every four to six sessions as the work progresses.

A focused course of CBT for a defined presentation often falls in the range of six to twenty sessions, though this is not a fixed rule. Trauma work, complex bereavement, and longer-standing presentations are typically longer; the framework is agreed openly rather than promised in advance.

Yes. The practice operates under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Mental health information is special-category data and is handled accordingly. The lawful basis, retention period, and disclosure boundaries are set out in full in the privacy policy.

Confidentiality has the standard clinical limits: where there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or to others, or a legal requirement to disclose, Henry will discuss this with you wherever it is safe to do so before any disclosure is made.

The first session is 50 minutes and is used to understand what has brought you to therapy, the history that is relevant, and what you would like the work to address. Henry will ask questions to build an initial formulation with you, and there is space to ask anything you would like to know about how he works.

You do not need to arrive with a clear summary or a prepared account. The first session is for getting that clear together. Henry has been conducting initial assessments for over twenty-five years; there is no right or wrong way to begin.

If a recurring difficulty, such as anxiety, low mood, relationship patterns, work stress, or loss, is interfering with your day-to-day life and you have not been able to work through it alone, therapy is worth exploring. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to book.

The first session is partly for Henry to understand what you are dealing with, and partly for you to assess whether this approach feels right for you. If it is not the right fit, Henry will say so and suggest what might be.

Henry is not able to provide emergency or out-of-hours crisis support. If you are in crisis between sessions, the right routes are your GP, NHS 111 (select the mental health option), or the Samaritans on 116 123.

This is discussed at the first session so you have a clear plan before the work begins.

Complaints 02

Henry Adu Bobi is a BABCP Member, accountable to the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics. If you have a concern about your care, please raise it directly with Henry in the first instance. He will respond as promptly as possible.

If you would prefer to raise the matter with the regulator, the BABCP complaints route is at https://babcp.com/Raising-a-concern.

You are free to end the work at any point and to seek therapy elsewhere. If it would be helpful, Henry can discuss the reasons with you and, where appropriate, suggest alternative practitioners or routes.

A short closing session is usually offered to take stock of the work, but this is not required. Any outstanding session fees are settled in the normal way.
